OPERA IN THE OFFICE

Barbara Norris's first ever formal recording.  Barbara says "It was fun recording this CD, How else can you feel about such beauty as Mozart's Alleluia, or the grace of the two most well-known Ave Marias!"

Besides, it gave us the opportunity to reprise our first collaboration.  In 1999 Shannon and I performed at the Lightner Museum in A bouquet of Love Songs for Valentine's Day.   Hector Berlioz wrote his song cycle, Les Nuits D'Ete, for solo voice and piano, then later orchestrated them again.  We especially love the piano effect in L'Absence, when the piano strings resonate with the voice even after the singer is silent.

Figuring out the order of the selections for this CD was challenging, too, as this is a "tapestry" of varied hue and texture.  For instance, do we let the wickedly angry, probably hormonal Queen of the Night precede Puccini's spoiled, lovesick teenager (O mio babbino caro), or let the silly, giddy Mabel from the Pirates of Penzance do the honors?

So, we offer you this small tapestry of a few of our favorites, hoping they will be some of yours too.
